SikaLatex is a high-quality, modified synthetic rubber emulsion designed as an admixture to significantly improve the adhesion, water resistance, and mechanical properties of cement mortars, screeds, renders, and patching compounds.

When added to cement mixes, SikaLatex creates a highly resilient polymer network within the mortar, drastically reducing permeability while enhancing tensile, flexural, and bonding strength. Whether used as a high-strength bonding slurry or as an integral waterproofing admixture, it ensures a durable, crack-resistant bond to concrete and masonry substrates.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Exceptional Adhesion: Provides a powerful bond between old and new concrete, mortars, stone, and brickwork.

  • Superior Waterproofing: Significantly reduces water absorption and permeability, making mortars highly resistant to driving rain and moisture.

  • Enhanced Flexibility & Crack Resistance: Increases flexural and tensile strength, helping mortars withstand thermal movement and shrinkage without cracking.

  • Improved Workability: Enhances the plasticity and cohesion of the fresh mix, reducing the amount of water needed without losing workability.

  • High Chemical & Abrasion Resistance: Improves resistance to mild chemicals, salts, frost, and surface wear in heavy-traffic environments.

  • Non-Toxic & Safe: Suitable for applications in contact with potable (drinking) water systems.

Primary Applications

SikaLatex is a versatile multi-purpose bonding agent ideal for:

  • High-strength bonding slurries for connecting new concrete or screeds to old substrates

  • Waterproof renders, plasters, and external wall coatings

  • High-performance floor screeds and floor repairs with thin-layer applications

  • Patching, spall repairs, and structural concrete restoration mortars

  • Grout and tile adhesive modification for increased flexibility

  • Pointing and brickwork mortar enhancement

Application Instructions

1. Surface Preparation

The substrate must be structurally sound, clean, and free from oil, grease, paint, laitance, dust, or any loose particles. Smooth concrete surfaces should be mechanically roughened (by wire brushing or grit blasting) to ensure an open texture. Thoroughly pre-wet the surface with clean water to a saturated surface dry (SSD) condition, ensuring no standing puddles remain before application.

2. Mixing & Dosing

Always stir SikaLatex thoroughly before use. It is typically diluted with the gauging water prior to adding the dry cement-sand blend.

  • For Bonding Slurry: Mix SikaLatex and clean water in a 1:1 ratio by volume, then add cement until a creamy, paint-like consistency is achieved.

  • For Mortar/Screed Admixture: Dilute SikaLatex with clean water at a ratio of 1:1 to 1:4 (depending on performance requirements) and use this liquid mix to gauge the sand-cement blend.

3. Placement

  • As a Bonding Slurry: Brush or scrub the creamy slurry vigorously into the prepared, damp substrate. Apply the fresh concrete or repair mortar wet-on-wet while the slurry is still wet and tacky. If the slurry dries, it will act as a bond breaker and must be mechanically removed before restarting.

  • As a Modified Mortar: Apply the modified mix using standard rendering, screeding, or patching techniques. Ensure thorough compaction.

4. Curing

Modified SikaLatex mortars dry quickly. Protect the finished surface from rapid drying caused by strong winds, direct sunlight, or high temperatures. Use standard curing methods, such as fine water misting, polythene sheeting, or an approved curing compound for at least 3 days.
